Sachem Tops Longwood:
Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 23 May 1998
Suddenly, the Sachem girls volleyball team found itself in a battle against a program that has been on the rise the past few years.
After winning the first two games easily and holding a 14-11 lead in the third game of their Suffolk Large School semifinal match against Longwood, the Flaming Arrows were one point away from making a sixth straight appearance in the Suffolk Large Schools final.
Not so fast.
Longwood fought back and scored five unanswered points to take Game 3, but Sachem was able to get back on track.
The Lions came within 13-11 in the fourth game, but Katie Miller had two straight kills off assists by Alicia Schellberg to give top-seeded Sachem a 15-4, 15-2, 14-16, 15-11 win over No. 4 Longwood yesterday.
