WRESTLING ’85/’86; Preview
By Gregg Sarra. Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 01 Dec 1985:
East, with league champions Keith Penney (county runnerup at 126), Dave Regina (91), Dave Mallin (105) and four other placewinners, will be in contention for the league title this year. “We’re a good tournament team,” said coach Bob Stock. “A family-oriented team with three sets of twins {Colby and Adam Britt, Mike and Matt Herrmann, Dave and Bill Mallin}. Expect an exciting year.” County champion Keith Ketcham (98), and league placewinners Chris Atkinson (heavyweight) and Willie Jones (250) make Longwood a strong squad. Keith Fitzsimmons (157) is back after a season-ending injury last year and coach Mike Picozzi feels his team will do well if it stays healthy. County runnerup and league champion Vin Innes (98), Brian Holland (98), Lou Pescatore (112) and Jack Sparacio (91) are strong lightweights for a balanced North Babylon squad. Ed Lampe (league champion at 177) and four league runners-up return for Brentwood, but coach Mike Tully said, “how well we do depends on how well our sophomores can fill the holes.” Placewinners Anthony Marano (138), Brian DeGaetano (145) and Joon Kim (155) are key performers for a solid Half Hollow Hills East team. “We’ll be in the hunt, a real contender,” said coach Sal DiFazio. Floyd, the league’s defending champion, loses nine starters. Freshman Matt Kenneally (91), Chris Cortez (112) and Mark Lake (heavyweight) are all back. “We’re a little weak now, but in two years, watch out. We’ll be real tough,” said coach Dan Nolan. Reggie Robinson (145) and Darren Brown (heavyweight) are two of eight starters returning after a rebuilding year at Whitman. League III

Wrestling Skills Take Ketcham Long Way: [SUFFOLK Edition]
Herrmann, Mark. Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 17 July 1986
Keith Ketcham’s skill as a wrestler brought him a county title and a third-place finish in the state high school tournament among other honors. Now it has taken him overseas.
The 17-year-old Longwood High School senior left last weekend for West Germany to compete in the Junior World Freestyle championships in Schiffenstad. Ketcham qualified for the trans-Atlantic journey by winning a national tournament in Grandville, Mich., early this month. In the 105-pound final, Ketcham defeated Kansas state champion Corey Jones, 10-5.
As a junior for Longwood last winter, Ketcham compiled a 26-1 regular-season record, won the Suffolk title at 98 pounds, and reached the state semifinals.
Rosemary Ketcham ascribes her son’s progress to the direction provided by Mike Picozzi, the Longwood varsity coach and director of the summertime Longwood Wrestling Club.
“He even went out and bought a truck so he could take the kids to tournaments,” she said. “Keith never would have been able to go if Mr. Picozzi hadn’t taken him.”
And Keith wasn’t the only Ketcham to benefit from Picozzi’s instruction and transportation. Steven Ketcham, a 94-pound competitor who will be a freshman in September, recently qualified for the Empire State Games. Chris Conway, another junior high graduate, also qualified.
