In girls track, Bay Shore is the defending champion, having edged Longwood, 61-56, in the county meet.
Bay Shore graduated the bulk of its scorers, but coach Ross Goldin still has Emily Germano, who won the county Class A cross-country race, and Chante Daily, who placed fifth.
Longwood will bid to regain the title with defending 300-meter county champion Tracie George, who also runs with the winning 4 x 200 relay team that includes Diana George, Jacqui Portocarrero and Nydia Montoya. Longwood also return long-distance runners Kristen Fosdick and Erin Dolan.
Sachem will also challenge behind Karen Labaddia (1,500 and 3,000) and Trish Mongiello (600).
An intense rivalry will continue in the 1,500 race walk between county winner Melissa Baker of Shoreham-Wading River and state champ Debbie Iden of Bayport-Blue Point. Girls Track
Longwood‘s Tracy George won the 300 meters (42.3 seconds) and finished second in the 55 dash (7.2) to help lead the Lions (104 points) to the Suffolk County Large School team title at SUNY-Farmingdale. Floyd’s Crystal Brooks, who also finished the 55 in 7.2, was declared the winner. Feb. 7
