Longwood 7, Shoreham-Wading River 0: Dave Knudsen pitched a two- hitter with six strikeouts. Steve Smakal’s catch saved a grand slam with two out and the game still scoreless in the fifth inning. Smakel hit a two-run single in the sixth as Longwood took a 3-0 lead. He had a two-run double in the seventh to cap the scoring. A.J. Datkun went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. WP – Knudsen. LP – Gili. Longwood 5, Sachem 2: Steve Smakal’s sacrifice fly in the third inning scored Joe Esposito as Longwood (1-0) took a 3-1 lead over Sachem (0-2). Smakal was 2-for-3 with a double and Mike Galigano went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Esposito threw a four- hitter with one earned run, a walk and five strikeouts. WP – Esposito. Smithtown 2, Longwood 0: Shane Sveda threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for Smithtown (9-4). He carried a no-hitter through five innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Mike Sveda scored from second base on Chris Hearvey’s infield single up the middle to break a scoreless tie. Ward Melville 4, Longwood 1: Dallas Garvin singled, stole second and third and scored on Chris Redder’s suicide squeeze to give Ward Melville (6-7) a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12th inning. Brian Schwartz’s two-run double extended the lead to 4-1 two batters later. Garvin went 4-for-4 with 3 stolen bases, 2 walks and 2 runs. Longwood is 4-9. WP – Kay. LP – Knudsen. May 6
