Mike Ventura of Longwood High School placed second in the discus throw at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Fresno, Calif., qualifying him for a berth in the Junior International Championships in Bulgaria in August. Teammate Vinnie Stewart, who is headed to Penn State on a football scholarship, finished fourth in the shot put . . . At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, St. Anthony’s William Yost, Daniel Donahue, Mark Naso and Michael Donovan finished sixth in the Championship of America 4 x 800 relay with a time of 7:52.87 . . . Mike Ventura of Longwood won the discus event with a throw of 177 feet, nine inches, the best throw by a New Yorker this season, according to Longwood coach Mike Santarpia . . . In the open division of the 10,000-meter walk, Tim Seaman of North Babylon, unattached, placed seventh in 21:12.0 as the first high school finisher. Longwood wins Conference Title

Angel Alomar won the high jump (6-1) and the long jump (21-4), and Mike Ventura won the discus (160-10), leading Longwood to its fifth consecutive Conference I boys track title at Longwood. Paul Tavares of Centereach won the 1,600-meter walk in 6:08.0, the fastest time in the state this year, according to Longwood coach Tony Toro.
In girls track, Stacy Rowe won the 100 (12.5) and 200 (26.2) and teammate Pam Fielder won the 100 hurdles (15.9) and the high jump (5-2) as Whitman had nine event winners en route to winning the Conference II title at Comsewogue. Jennifer Norton of East Islip won the 1,500-meter run (4:48.1), 800 (2:21.3) and 3,000 (10:53.1).
