Uniondale Wins 4 X 100 Title at Penn: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]

Uniondale’s 4 x 100 of Ernest Bowser, Kristen Lightbourne, Erin Tucker and Nesean Quinn captured the Championship of America in 41.97 seconds at the Penn Relays yesterday in Philadelphia. The time bettered the Nassau County record of 42.0 set by Uniondale in 1993. Tucker ran a 48.6 leadoff leg in the 4 x 400 relay and Brian McKnight, Fred Bunyon and Willie Mack combined for a fourth-place finish in 3:24.36. Bowser jumped 23-7 1/2 to place second in the long jump. He got his distance on his last jump, which was the longest by an American and it earned him a gold watch.

Half Hollow Hills East took second in the 4 x 400 relay as Mariusz Malinowski, Steve Hovdestad, Kenyon Link and Steve Cover ran a 3:23.35, the fastest time recorded for a Long Island school this year. Cover ran an anchor leg of 47.4 . . . The Longwood boys 4 x 400 of David Olavarria, Frank Jackson, Dan Stevenson and Andre Wacasey finished first in their section in a time of 3:27.53.

In the Loucks Games in White Plains, Northport’s Dave Lichtenstein won the high jump (6-4); Half Hollow Hills East’s Steven Cover won the 200 in 21.87; Hills West’s Andre Oldacre won the 400 in 48.65; Longwood‘s Chris Cacace won the mile walk (7:00) and teammate Dan Stevenson won the 3,000 steeplechase (9:35.4). In the girls meet, Gina LoMonaco of Hills won the discus with a 142-0. May 15
