So did Longwood (9-5), which managed that feat in only its fifth year as a varsity program. The Lions return their entire starting defense: Chris Meyer, Carlos Vega and John Galvin and goalie Steven Gordon. Tommy Baker, Richard Neuman and James Fernandes lead the attack and Brian Grazedie is back at midfield. Smithtown (10-4) and Connetquot (6-8) also should contend.

In other non-league action, Jamie Sharpe and Charlie Pearson each scored four goals to pace Comsewogue to a 13-2 victory over Longwood. In other Division I action, Mike Thearle scored three goals to lead Sachem to an 11-3 win over Longwood. John Flandina took a pass from James DeVivo and scored a man-up goal 2:53 into the third sudden death period as West Islip, which trailed, 4-1, rallied to beat Longwood, 7-6, yesterday in a Division I boys lacrosse game. DeVivo finished with three goals and two assists. West Islip (4-2) was on the power play after a Longwood player was called for a slash 1:01 into the period. Trailing 6-4, West Islip forced overtime when DeVivo scored two unanswered fourth-quarter goals. Longwood keeper Steve Gordon recorded 10 of his 21 saves in the five extra periods. West Islip keeper Ryan Batter made 11 saves, including four in overtime. Longwood is 3-4.

Bryan Eldridge, Tim Cocks and Andrei Lombardi each scored two goals as Northport (3-4) beat Longwood, 8-5.
