1999-2000

The Longwood cheerleading squad -captained by Michelle Ruggiero and Keri Corrigan-won its fifth national championship at the World Cheerleading Association Championships from Dec. 27-30 in Nashville. The Lions also picked up titles in 1989, ’91, ’93 and ’97. “We overcame all kinds of obstacles since August,” coach Donna Beary said. “Seven of the girls [on the 23-girl roster] have had mononucleosis, and another with the flu got sick on the mat during the competition.” – Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 07 Jan 2000:
