Commack Bowlers Take Title: [SUFFOLK Edition]

Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 05 Feb 2003: 

Neil Foresto rolled a 259 in the second game and 289 in the fourth in a 970 four-game series to lead defending Suffolk champion Commack to a first-place finish yesterday at the Suffolk Large Schools championship at East Islip Bowl.

Five of the nine Cougar bowlers shot 200-plus games.

Billy Shannon added a 245 and 249 in Games 1 and 2. Mike Boble had a 240 in the third game and Adam Sher a 226 in the third game. Rory Vanderbelt had a 222 in the second game.

“It really put us in a great position for Saturday,” Commack coach Sue Olivieri said, referring to the Suffolk team championship at Sports Plus in Lake Grove. “It really helped us out.”

It also helped Commack (4,338 pins) prepare for Northport, which beat the Cougars on Jan. 6.

Jason Brochause shot a 240 in the second game in his 940 series for second-place Northport (4,112).

“We’ve always been big competitors – us and Northport,” Olivieri said. “Any given day you never know what kind of game you’re going to bowl.”

Teammate Bryan McKenna shot a 285 in the second game.

Third-place Bay Shore (4,083) was led by Jonathan Trzcyski’s 257 in a 897 series.

Floyd finished fourth (4,058), West Babylon (4,015) was fifth and Longwood took sixth (3,963). Host East Islip finished seventh (3,944), led by Patrick Cooley (835 series) and Mark Marra (810).
