2023

Good Morning Varsity Football Parents,

I hope everyone is well, and ready for another exciting season.

Our boys have been hard at work. We started our lifting program on January 3rd, and we just concluded our offseason this past Thursday, August 10th. For eight straight months the boys have lifted, conditioned, learned the playbook, and even participated in our leadership symposium. In addition, we have been active members in our community. Here are some of the events we took place in:

February 2023 – Best Buddies Combine

We coordinated with our Best Buddies program to provide a football combine to our students with special needs. The boys set up stations and encouraged their peers. We wanted them to get a taste of what it was like on Friday nights.

May 2023 – Unified Basketball Game

Our boys treated the last home unified basketball game as a “Homecoming.” We made signs and presented them to the players after the game.

June 2023 – Longwood Victory Games

Our boys helped run stations for Longwood’s version of the “Victory Games,” which is an inclusive competition for those with special needs.

July 2023 – National Hot Dog Day at Longwood Career Center

Some of the boys participated in a cooking lesson at the Longwood Career Center in our Extended School Year program, helping some of our student with special needs learn safety and cooking skills in the kitchen.

Giving back to our community is righteous, and it’s something that is important in our program. See some of the pictures below for some of the action!

Training camp starts on Monday August 21st, and here are some important dates to mark down:

PARENT MEETING – Tuesday August 22nd, 7:30 p.m. in bleachers. Please try to have at least one parent come to the meeting.

FAMILY BBQ – Saturday August 26th, 10:00 a.m. at the fieldhouse – PLAYER IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY

SUNDAY PRACTICE – Sunday September 10th – 7 -10am – Because of the Jewish holiday, we play Wednesday after a Friday game. We cannot practice 7 days in a row, so in this one circumstance, we will practice on early Sunday morning and have the boys out by 10.

HOMECOMING – Saturday September 23rd – 1 p.m. vs Commack

SENIOR NIGHT – Friday October 27th – 6 p.m. vs. Brentwood

We anticipate another exciting season. The boys have been working extremely hard, and their growth as men over the last eight months has been evident. Enjoy this week off, and I can’t wait to get back to work Monday.

Roll Pride.

Longwood Football Community,

As I’ve taken the weekend to reflect, I wanted to say thank you to all those who have made this another great and successful season. This senior class will not be judged on their win/loss record, but rather what kind of men they are in 10-15 years from now (however 14-7 in two years with two Big Four Championships is something to be proud of). I am confident that they will take the four pillars of Pride Football with them, live lives of consequence, and better our communities.

A special thank you to my staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to put a product on the field that we can be proud of. They’re not just football coaches preaching X’s and O’s – they’re an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or a voice of reason when needed. They truly develop your entire child, not just the football aspect.

Another special thank you to our Team Mom – Kelly Chichester. In other programs, there are no pregame meals, senior ceremonies, homecoming breakfasts, or Friday night meetings. Kelly makes sure that everything is shopped for, organized, and taken care of so that the staff can focus on the kids and football. I can’t thank her enough.

Lastly, I want to thank Hero Lovers and More and Bagels 101. They provided our pregame meals all season and give back in a way that many don’t see. Please consider giving them your business as they truly care about your kids, and it showed at our Friday night meetings and Saturday morning breakfasts.

Seniors – don’t be strangers. Once you’re a Lion you are ALWAYS a Lion. Underclassmen – enjoy the next couple of weeks and then we’re right back at it.

Again, thank you for your support – and we look forward to seeing you next fall.

Roll Pride,

Coach Sean Kluber ’06
