he Suffolk girls golf championship was a battle of Smithtown. Smithtown East (908) bested Smithtown West (951) for the team title at Sunken Meadow Golf Course.
Katie Fitzharris (171) and Carly Peters (172) finished eighth and ninth as East won its first title in school history.
“We don’t have a weakness, so most definitely, the amount of good players I have is what enabled us to win,” East coach Bob Woods said.
East’s Lauren Brennan shot 181, Lindsay Selman 192, Alexa Niven 192, and Casey Pollack 198. Best five scores counted.
Northport junior Krissy Unger won the individual title (156), one stroke ahead of Longwood‘s Emily Garrahan. May 27
GIRLS GOLF: 2nd place for Sessa

Garden City Maroon golfer Samantha Sessa played about as well she could yesterday on the second day of the NYSPHSAA Championship at SUNY Delhi.
But Baldwinsville’s Lauren Petty played just a little better.
Petty shot 2-under-par 70 yesterday, including a 33 on the back nine, to defeat Sessa by a shot, 145 to ‘, over the 36 holes.
Sessa and Petty were tied after 27 holes, exchanging the lead until they were all square again with two holes to play. Petty made par and Sessa a bogey on the 17th. Both made par on 18 as Petty prevailed.
Longwood‘s Emily Garrahan (157) took eighth and was the top Suffolk finisher. Mount Sinai’s Kristina Ly finished 12th, Smithtown West’s Kaitlin Clancy 13th and Northport’s Cameron Lambertson 15th.
