Chris Kar hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth to break a tie and give Mattituck a 6-4 win over Longwood yesterday in the first round of the Shoreham-Wading River baseball tournament. Pat Manzo pitched three innings of scoreless relief. Thomas Smith went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Mattituck will play Shoreham-Wading River in the final at 11 a.m. tomorrow. WP – M: Manzo. Bessell and Gerry Russo scored on a two-out error in the third to give Longwood a 2-1 lead. Kyle Weeks broke up Tim Groth’s no-hitter with a leadoff single in the sixth. Groth gave up just the one hit, walked four and struck out four for Ward Melville (6-10).
