BOWLING PREVIEW, East Islip girls looking to strike again: [NASSAU AND SUFFOLK Edition]

As far as girls bowling goes, few teams have enjoyed the success that East Islip has achieved. East Islip has not lost a regular- season match since the 2000-2001 season and has won three of the last five Suffolk titles.

“It is nice to stay on top, but eventually someone will catch you,” East Islip coach Hal Cooley said.

With two of Suffolk’s top bowlers, Krystal Olivieri and Sarah O’Brien graduated, East Islip looks to junior All-Suffolk bowlers Gina Capone, Amy Sadowski and Emily Fisher, and senior Keriann Shalvoy to carry on the winning ways. Nikki Wilson and Tara Ernst also will crack the lineup.

“No one talks about it,” Cooley said of the winning streak. “Our goal is to make the playoffs and win the league. If you don’t get there, then you can’t win the county [title].”

It’s a philosophy that seems to work.

The competition will be stiff in the form of Islip and two of Suffolk’s best in the Fontinell sisters, senior twins Casey and Stefany. They are surrounded by strong bowlers such as Sam Russ, Alex Devries, Jennifer Paehr and Macy Schroder.

Patchogue-Medford is led by first-year coach Christina Carpluk. A strong program will again contend with returning All-League bowlers Taylor Maharaj and Danielle Cessman. Zulfiye Bademci is an eighth- grader with the ability to make an impact, Carpluk said.

Sachem North is strong with Desiree Moorman and Jennifer Vreeland.

Northport has a strong bowler in Tommy May McNally. Longwood could also contend with a solid lineup of Amelia Tonyes, Kaitlin Caspar, Kelly McDermott, Kristen Kingsepp and Katrina Mower.
