Chris Antonacci. STAFF WRITER. Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 03 Apr 2002:

Mike Maher (35 goals) is the nucleus for Whitman (10-7), which also slides into Division II. Gordon Jacobs (38 goals, 25 assists) and Smithtown (9-8) survived growing pains last year, and is looking to qualify for the playoffs. Patchogue-Medford (10-7) lost all of its starters, except midfielders Mike Smeja, Mike Fabbrica and David Booth. Floyd (8-7) lacks depth but has Jeremy Jablonski (49 goals), Mike Miller (40 points) and nine other starters returning. Michael Gongas (40 goals, 45 assists) leads Commack (8-8). Lindenhurst (6- 10), with goalie Nick Baruso (237 saves), looks to return to the playoffs. Pat McCurdy and C.J. Leary make Bay Shore (5-11) tough. Longwood (7-9) has a junior-dominated squad for coach Allen Schroeder. Connetquot (3-13), Brentwood (5-11) and Middle Country (3- 12) must improve. North Babylon, in its first year, joins East Islip (3-13) in Division II.
