Weather Postpones Games:
By Tom Rock. STAFF WRITER. Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 10 Apr 1996:
The Longwood softball team has been in dry dock for the last two days. Its games against Brentwood were moved to this afternoon and Friday, while a regularly scheduled game for tomorrow between the two teams teeters on the brink of postponment. “We’ve been working inside, but it’s not enough,” coach Dawn Mancini said. “It gets monotonous.”
Bob Woods has been coaching lacrosse at Comsewogue for 10 years, and he agreed this is the worst weather he has seen in that time. “Last year we were out on the field every day,” he said. “This is ridiculous.”
Comsewogue had its game yesterday against Islip rescheduled for 4 p.m. today at Comsewogue.
“We’ve been lucky that this is our first postponed game of the season,” Woods said. “Hopefully, it will be our last.”
Said Half Hollow Hills West baseball coach Tom Migliozzi: “This is incredible. It’ll probably snow until May. It looks like we’re going to play every day until the playoffs. This is going to create tremendous pitching problems with the rotation for everyone. Maybe we could just skip the spring season and get an early start on football.”
