Any of the following teams have a legitimate shot at going deep into the playoffs: Sachem (15-3) has Jerry Schlie, the 6-6 brother of graduated All-County player Michael Schlie, returning in the post, along with guard Craig Stolzberg and forward Cory Martin. Perennial power Brentwood (17-4), a finalist last year, has Rob Burton, an All-County and Empire State guard. The Indians also will look to 6-foot senior forward Dave Brennan for defense and leadership. Commack (15-4) sports one of the Suffolk’s best shooters in All-County guard Brett Orzechowski (22 points). He is joined by forwards George Lutz and 6-6, 240-pound center Howard Johnson. Watch out for much-improved Huntington (8-10) and guard / forward Stephen Swlinski. Scott Kindelmann, 6-5 Erik Smiles and defensive specialist Richie Pope should help Swlinski and the Blue Devils gain a playoff berth. North Babylon (14-7) graduated All-Long Island guard Daryl Alleyne, but returns guards Kendall Hynes and talented freshman Barry Baker, an All-League honorable mention last season, along with forward Jason Hickson.

Seniors Dave Spinella and Ron Stone lead a young West Babylon (14-6) team. Whitman (10-9) has a senior-filled squad with Demond Wilkerson, Enock Malcoln and Melvin Alexander attempting to compensate for the loss of leading scorer Rich Giddens, who transferred to Long Island Lutheran. Copiague (14-6), Longwood (9-10) and Half Hollow Hills East (10-9) have a shot at the playoffs.
