Christian Losee’s run-scoring double down the rightfield line and a subsequent throwing error on the play gave Longwood a 4-2 lead with two outs in the top of the seventh inning of a 4-3 win over Patchogue-Medford yesterday in a League I baseball game.
Lofee was running for a triple and the outfield throw skipped past the third baseman. In the bottom of the seventh, Patchogue loaded the bases on two walks and a single and scored its third run on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Ciriglione. The next batter flew out to rightfielder Tom Silverstein, who threw out the runner attempting to tag to third for a double play to end the game. Lofee got the win.
Jackie Raso was 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a three-run homer in the sixth inning, as Port Jefferson downed Longwood, 18-3. Dan Virgilio’s two-run single keyed a six-run fifth inning and Shoreham-Wading River wiped out a 2-0 deficit and went on to defeat Bellport, 8-4, yesterday in a semifinal of the Shoreham-Wading River baseball tournament. Frank Novellino added a two-run triple in the inning. , Tom Gatz pitched a five-hitter with five walks and seven strikeouts for the win. Shoreham-Wading River will play Longwood in tomorrow’s final at 3:30. Mike Zwaryczuk took the loss. , Nick Orfino scored from third on an infield error in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and Longwood edged Eastport, 3-2. Tim Mahood pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts to earn the win. Mike MacKenzie went 2-for-4 with an RBI double that gave Longwood a 2-1 lead in the third inning. Eastport tied the score at 2 on a run-scoring triple by Mike Whiffen in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Steve Tedesco, who doubled. GuyM1 M0Napolitano took the loss. March 30

G.J. Stanovich allowed two hits in four innings for the win as Longwood beat Shoreham-Wading River, 3-1, yesterday in the final of the Shoreham-Wading River baseball tournament.
Danny Moccio hit a run-scoring single in the top of the first to give Longwood a 1-0 lead. The Lions extended the lead to 3-0 in the second on Danny Hughes’ fielder’s choice at first. The ball was thrown away on an attempted force at home, allowing Tom Silverstein and Robert Orsino to score. Kevin Williams had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third for Shoreham’s only run. Freshman Jason Otto relieved Stanovich in the fifth and gave up two hits in the last three innings for the save. Tommy Cteizer took the loss.
Jim Schneider pitched a perfect game as Patchogue-Medford edged Longwood, 1-0, yesterday in the League I baseball opener for both teams. Schneider struck out six and induced 10 groundouts. Longwood starter Tom Silverstein also was impressive, throwing a three-hitter and walking one. Patchogue-Medford broke up the pitchers’ duel when Vin Mauro scored on Andy Napoli’s suicide squeeze with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mauro had singled and moved to third on a single by Eric Rossy.
Rightfielder Kevin Csoka caught a routine fly ball to wrap up Schneider’s gem.

Patchogue answered with a run in the third, four runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to make the score 7-6. Timmy Mahood came on in relief with runners on first and second with no outs and induced a flyout to left, a strikeout and a ground out to third for the save. Mike LaMura hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie and Sachem went on to beat Longwood, 7-3, yesterday in a League I baseball game.
LaMura’s blast was Sachem’s third in a game that featured four home runs. Matt Clark and Tom Downey also homered for the Flaming Arrows, and Billy Peuplie added two doubles to back winning pitcher Jarod Harling. Tim Mahood took the loss. Nick Orsino homered for Longwood.

Tim Mahood carried a 3-1 lead and a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh, when he allowed a leadoff single to losing pitcher Mike Merotta. Moccio went 3-for-4 with three RBI. WP – Mahood. Longwood 5, Brentwood 4. Dan Darienzo’s triple scored Christian Losee from second base with none out in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Longwood a 5-2 lead. Brentwood scored two runs in the top of the seventh to close within 5-4 with the potential tying run on second base, but reliever Dan Hugues induced a flyout to end the game. Darienzo hit a three-run homer in the fourth that gave Longwood the lead for good at 3-2. In League I, winning pitcher Matt Lorper scored from third on a squeeze bunt by Chris Salamone with one out in the top of the seventh to break a tie at 3 and Floyd went on to beat Longwood, 5-3. John Lovaglio led off the inning with a single and Lorper pinch ran. Lorper advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mike Castelli and a throwing error. Tim Taphouse’s run-scoring single gave Floyd (6-7) a 5-3 lead. James Ruland’s two-run double sparked a three-run first inning that gave Floyd a 3-0 lead. Longwood (5-4) answered with runs in the second, third, and fifth innings. Lorper got the win in relief of Keith Hennessey and allowed no runs and one hit in two innings. Losing pitcher Tim Mahood allowed only three hits. May 2
Floyd 13, Longwood 1. Mike Wagner was 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI to lead an 18-hit attack for Floyd (7-7). Wagner’s three-run homer in the third gave Floyd an 8-1 lead. Lynn Paolillo’s two-out grand slam in the fifth inning capped a five-run inning as Smithtown took an early 5-0 lead and went on to clinch the League I title with an 11-1 victory over Longwood. Angelo Ciminiello allowed four hits and no walks and struck out eight and Nick Buonagura had three hits for Smithtown (13-0). Tim Mahood took the loss for Longwood (6-7).. May 9
In League I, John Novinsky pitched a four-hitter, striking out 11 and walking none as Smithtown downed Longwood, 5-1. Ward Melville 7, Longwood 5. Tom Marksberry hit a two-run single with one out in the top of the seventh to key a four-run rally for Ward Melville (5-11). Scott Blair and Greg Sawicki led off the inning with singles to start the rally. Tom Minnigan and Mike Licausi followed Marksberry’s hit by driving in runs to give Melville a 7-4 lead. Longwood scored a run in the bottom of the inning but winning pitcher Joe Costanzo induced a groundout to end the game. Costanzo struck out five and walked one.
