Bayport-Blue Point and Longwood have thrown in the towel, too – Longwood will be starting its fourth consecutive year on austerity. “When you get conditioned to doing this, and the district has been conditioned, you go along pretty well,” said Longwood Schools Superintendent Nick Muto. “With the economic climate the way it is, almost everyone has got to make some sacrifices and do what they can.” Longwood, where students are widely spread out, passed a separate transportation proposition to bus all students and has booster clubs to help support athletics.

Senior swingman Bobby Hodgson scored 24 points and went over the 2,000 points for his Floyd career as the Colonials defeated Longwood, 78-60, in a League I boys basketball game last night. The 6-7 Hodgson has been playing on the Floyd varsity since the eighth grade, and has compiled 2,019 points during that span. Hodgson has a total of 2,038 points in his high school career, counting 19 points he scored for West Islip as a seventh-grader.
“His personal accomplishments will be something that we look back on after he has finished playing and enjoy,” said Floyd coach Bob Hodgson, his father. “Right now our focus is just as it has been, on making the playoffs and competing for the league championship. We knew at some point he would {do it} but it has not been one of our focuses.”
“To tell you the truth I really wasn’t thinking about {it} that much,” the younger Hodgson said. “I wasn’t even aware of when it happened because I was so focused on the game. It’s a good accomplishment because it’s something that not many people have done, so it’s nice in that effect.”
Hodgson is the fifth player in Suffolk County high school history to reach the 2,000-point plateau. The others are Kenny Wood of East Hampton (2,613); Gary Williams of Bay Shore (2,125); Al Edwards of Greenport (2,117) and Chris Rooney of Smithtown West (2,063).
