Longwood Golfer Gets Ace:

Newsday, Combined editions; Long Island, N.Y. [Long Island, N.Y]. 30 Sep 1993:

It’s the kind of shot all golfers dream about. Yesterday, Brian Fosdick’s dream became reality when the Longwood senior sank a hole-in-one. Using a pitching wedge, Fosdick hit the ball approximately five feet past the 110-yard, par-3 third hole and watched as the ball spun back into the cup.

“His foursome and another group started jumping up and down after the shot,” said coach Stu Glass, who started Longwood’s golf program in 1982. “They heard him all over the course.”

Fosdick, who made All-Conference last year, finished with a 1-over-par 37 on the nine-hole Dogwood course at Middle Island Country Club as Longwood defeated Port Jefferson, 8-1.

“It was a quite a shot,” Glass said. “We’ve had two other boys get holes-in ones over the years. But it’s a rarity. I’ve been playing golf since I’ve been 11 years old and I’ve never had one.”

Phil Flora shot a 1-over-par 36 at the Bellport CC as Bellport beat LaSalle, 9-0, in golf . . . Jay Timko shot a 1-over-par 37 at the Middle Island CC to lead Shoreham-Wading River past Longwood, 8 1/2-1 1/2 – Oct. 8
