Gleason Pitches No-Hitter:

Brian Gleason threw a no–hitter with 14 strikeouts and two walks as Smithtown beat Longwood, 2-0, yesterday in Suffolk League I baseball.
Josh Borowski drove in the first run on a safety squeeze in the seventh and Matt Borowski (Josh’s brother) added a run-scoring single later in the inning. Losing pitcher Chip Southern allowed three hits over six-plus innings.
In a League I doubleheader, Smithtown swept Longwood, 4-1 and 15-1, respectively. In the opener, Greg Arnold had a run-scoring double in the first inning to open a 2-0 lead. Marc Plesse went the distance, striking out seven and allowing four hits. Tom Nielsen took the loss.
In game two, Brian Doyle had three hits and five RBI, including a two-run single in the first and a two-run single in the sixth. Sophomore Greg Arnold pitched a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts and three walks. Jim Otto was the losing pitcher. April 6
Ward Melville 7, Longwood 2. Dave Carrano was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Tim Young had a run-scoring double and Chris Hendricks allowed four hits in six innings for Ward Melville. WP – Hendricks. LP – Southard. April 16
Longwood 8, Patchogue-Medford 6. Steven Filippi doubled in two runs and scored in a three-run sixth that gave Longwood its 8-6 win. Teammate Vinny Cereola was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Kenny O’Connor hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give Longwood a 3-2 lead. Longwood 7, Sachem 6. Matt Marino hit a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give Longwood the win. Dave Farber led off the inning with a single and scored ahead of Marino. WP – Nielsen. LP – Reid. HR – Lynch (S); Marino (L). April 27
Sachem 5, Longwood 1. Keith Margolis hit a three-run triple in the second inning to break a tie at 1. WP – Natalie. LP – Otto. April 28
Scott June’s two-run double in a three-run first gave Sachem a 3-0 lead and the Flaming Arrows led thereafter in their 7-6 League I victory over Longwood. Longwood left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh after scoring two runs to cut the deficit to one. Chris Hanley hit a two-run single in the fifth to give Sachem a 6-3 lead and Sean Lynch’s run-scoring double with two outs in the sixth gave the Flaming Arrows a 7-4 lead. Matt Larson got the win while Danny Hicks took the loss. April 30
In another League I game, Chad Kearney’s two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave Brentwood a 2-1 win over Longwood. John Fodrowski pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts. Dave Farber singled with one out in the seventh to break up the no-hitter. Dan Hicks took the loss. – May 7
Lindenhurst 3, Longwood 1. Lindenhurst’s Matt Yasinsky gave up three hits in five innings, striking out four and walking two. Bob Weiden’s suicide squeeze bunt in the second scored Joe Belsamo to give Lindenhurst a 2-0 lead. Longwood reliever Keith Otto struck out seven and walked none in three innings. WP – Yasinsky. Tom Pagliaro singled leading off the bottom of the ninth, stole second and scored on Craig Morano’s single to leftfield to break a 2-2 tie and send Floyd to a 3-2 win over Longwood. Winning pitcher Mike Postilio went the distance striking out 18. Postilio recorded 10 of the first 11 outs by strikeout. May 19
Augie Sciulla’s run-scoring single ignited a three-run first inning for first-place Floyd (17-1) in a 5-2 win over Longwood. Matt Olin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Sciulla added two hits with two RBI. Tom Pagliaro recorded the win. Dan Hicks took the loss – May 21
