Bayport-Blue Point and Longwood have thrown in the towel, too – Longwood will be starting its fourth consecutive year on austerity. “When you get conditioned to doing this, and the district has been conditioned, you go along pretty well,” said Longwood Schools Superintendent Nick Muto. “With the economic climate the way it is, almost everyone has got to make some sacrifices and do what they can.” Longwood, where students are widely spread out, passed a separate transportation proposition to bus all students and has booster clubs to help support athletics.

Rich Raupp scored on Longwood’s third penalty kick to give the Lions a 3-2 victory over Comsewogue in the Brookhaven Cup boys soccer tournament yesterday. After 60 minutes of soccer, the game ended in a 1-1 tie and Longwood scored on its first three penalty kicks. Tom Patriss scored with 21 minutes left in the game to force the overtime

Robbie Noll’s unassisted goal 14:15 into the second half gave Centereach a 2-0 lead and it went on to beat Longwood, 3-1, in the final of the Rocky Point boys soccer tournament yesterday. Emmett Berberich’s goal 16:59 into the game gave Deer Park a 1-0 lead and Joe Alessi added two goals in the Falcon’s 3-1 win over Brentwood . . . Geoff Keller scored the first goal 32 seconds into the game as Newfield took a 3-0 halftime lead in its 3-1 win over Longwood. Eddie Keskin scored Floyd’s first goal 9:55 into the game en route to a 4-0 win over Longwood. Keskin finished with two goals while Cosmo Stoia had two assists and Matt Schlueter made nine saves for the shutout. Sept. 29

Steve Impellizzeri had a goal and an assist to lead Patchogue-Medford to a 3-0 win over Longwood. Impellizzeri scored on an assist from Scott Backman with 12:36 left in the first half to open the scoring. Oct. 1

In League I, Longwood‘s Rich Raupp scored the last of his three goals with 1:05 left in the final overtime after scrambling for a loose ball in the box as the Lions and Ward Melville played to a 3-3 tie. Scott Weber had two goals and Chris Estefani one for Ward Melville. Oct. 5

Smithtown’s Dan O’Connell tied the score five minutes into the second half and Chris Marino had the winning goal with 10 minutes left off a pass by Richard Giordano to give Smithtown a 2-1 win over Longwood. Oct. 7

Ward Melville entered the game with an 0-2-2 record. That mark included Monday’s 3-3 tie with Longwood, which is 0-4-1 and traditionally has been one of the weaker teams in League I.

Cosmo Stoia scored at 18:39 of second half on an assist by Eddie Keskin and Matt Schlueter’s save of a penalty kick in the game’s opening minutes stood up as Floyd defeated Longwood, 1-0.  Longwood 0 0 0 Goal – F: Stoia. Saves – F: Schlueter 9; L: Glibowski 17. Oct. 19

Chris Felice scored the first of his two goals 5:13 into the opening half on an assist by Mike Campanelli as Patchogue-Medford breezed past Longwood, 6-0. Oct. 22 

Bryan Johnson headed in a crossing pass from Keith Albertina with 9:02 remaining in the game as Sachem beat Longwood, 2-1. Trailing 1-0, Sachem tied the score on a 25-yard goal by Jesse Rollner three minutes into the second half. Oct. 28
