Longwood‘s girls cross country team should enjoy another successful season as it returns five of the seven girls who earned coach Chris Duffner his second county title and a fifth-place finish at the state meet. Erin Dolan, who finished fifth at the states, is joined by Kristen Bradley, Jenn Delosso, Stacy Cuozzo and Sue Dunbar. Duffner said all the girls should record times between 19:56 and 21:45.
There should be some competition, however, coming from Floyd – the team that defeated Longwood in the Conference I championship and is returning all seven girls. Floyd’s Tammy Koch is someone to watch. She and Dolan are expected to vie for postseason titles now that East Islip’s Jen Norton is gone. The first dual meet between the two teams is scheduled for Oct. 1 at Sunken Meadow.
“We’re {Longwood and Floyd} also going to bang heads in the conference meet and the county meet,” said Duffner, whose teams have finished among the county’s top five over the past four years. “But I like our chances. I think we have the best team we’ve ever had.” That might be true, but Bay Shore should also be considered as it returns all its girls, too.
