TOP CHEERS: The Longwood school district has two of the top cheerleading squads in the nation. The junior varsity squad placed first among large schools and the varsity cheerleaders placed seventh at the International Open Cheerleading Championship held last month in Nashville, Tenn. Longwood High School was the only school in the nation to place two teams in the top seven. More than 3,500 cheerleaders from 277 squads competed. Longwood senior Lisa Pitka was ranked among the top 40 cheerleaders in the nation as she was named to Team America. The varsity squad also was awarded “best partner stunts” for the third consecutive year. The junior varsity squad was chosen “most spirited.” Jan. 1992
