Longwood Central School District voters yesterday approved three of six propositions in the district’s third budget vote. The decision to allow voters to choose from such a “menu” – separate from items included in an austerity budget – was made after a proposed $79.3 million budget calling for a 13.3 percent tax increase was defeated twice.

The tax rate under the $77.5 million austerity budget is $56.46 per $100 of assessed value. Yesterday, voters:

Approved Proposition 1 for transportation, which will cost taxpayers $340,000 and adds $0.596 to the tax rate. It passed, 3,939 to 2,444.

Approved Proposition 2 for interscholastic sports, which at a cost of $337,305 will add $0.591 to the tax rate. The vote was 3,226 to 3,096.

Defeated Proposition 3 for co-curricular activities, which include school clubs and field trips, at a cost of $413,901 which would have added $0.726 to the tax rate. It was rejected by a vote of 3,242 to 3,035.

Approved Proposition 4 for instructional supplies, costing $302,990 and adding $0.531 to the tax rate. The vote, 3,173 to 3,123.

Defeated Proposition 5 for equipment, which includes classroom computers and library books, which would have cost $598,611 and added $1.05 to the tax rate. The vote, 3,355 to 2,920.
