Christine Gentile of Babylon established the season’s best by a Long Island girl (4:32.9) as she won the 1,500 meters at the Penn Relay in Philadelphia. Longwood‘s Kim Kessel won the shot put with a throw of 42-11 3/4 . . .April 29

Kim Kessell’s throw of 45-7 1/2 broke her Longwood shot put record in a win over Ward Melville. Her previous mark of 43-6 had been set last week. Mary Mullane of Ward Melville won the 1,500 in 4:56 . . . Comsewogue’s Anna Maly broke her school record in the shot put with a throw of 36-3. She set the old mark of 34-0 last year.
