Longwood ranked 2nd in pre season poll

2. LONGWOOD. Unbeaten in six non-league games, the Lions were particularly impressive with a 59-43 triumph over Westhampton, which is considered one of Suffolk’s teams to watch. Longwood‘s top scorer is center/forward Jennifer Krucher, a senior who has been an all-star in three sports since she was a ninth-grader. An accurate shooter, she hit eight straight jump shots in the third quarter against Center Moriches and made 13 of 15 free throws against Miller Place.

Captain Jennie Cardone is a defensive standout, first-year coach Phil Reany said, and Robyn Bendernagel provides rebounding and scoring depth.

“I’m really enjoying coaching these kids,” said Reany, a Longwood alumnus who coached the boys junior varsity last season. “They work hard, they don’t miss practice, they’re constantly interested in getting better.”

Jenny Krucher scored 23 points, 14 in the second half, as Longwood defeated Westhampton, 59-43
