1961

In 1961 the Middle Island Central School District converted the Coram school into a JHS for grades 7-9. The elementary students were dispersed to the other three elementary schools, returning after the HS was opened in 1962. The Freshman team practiced and played home games at Charles E. Walters Elementary School.

For the past two weeks about 40 boys who attend the new Longwood High School have been trying out for the school’s first freshman football team. The boys attired in white lettered blue practice uniforms, have been working out with Coach Water LaPrairie, assisted by Don Crosby and Earl Walker, at the field behind the Charles E, Walter’s School in Yaphank.
